Student Work: Figure Drawing I - Anatomy

The "Big Skeleton" was the Midterm Project that my students at first did not like but when it was completed they were very proud of it and often won prizes at juried shows. It had to be done life-size, with all the measurements done correctly from the life skeleton model. Students were to combine several sheets of 24x18 pastel or charcoal paper and work with black charcoal adding white pastel for highlights.

The images below are class work - gesture drawing of the skeleton, when students are moving around the skeleton every 1-5 minutes. These short gesture drawings are layered, erased and layered again, finishing with a longer 25 minutes session of a part of the skeleton, that they select to focus on.
